Thomas Balzamo has always enjoyed making things, and throughout the years, has crafted many custom items for friends and family.

In 2016, we were asked to participate in a local craft fair and sold an assortment of handmade wood-turned items such as our wooden tumblers, razors, and pens. The following year, we introduced wet shaving supplies — more razors, shave brushes with wood-turned handles, razor stands, homemade shave soap and aftershave — along with a few other items, all mostly geared toward men.

Our items were crafted out of our small woodshop on a single, maple workbench. We quickly came up with the name “Benchmade Manliness”. The name stuck for several years, but eventually became shortened to “BMM Workshop” as we added new items.

At one point, someone suggested that we open our own Etsy shop. Our small business then grew to the point that we purchased our own website, and now have our own independent store!

Our small business continued to grow as more people began to learn of it and request custom orders. One customer asked for a cowboy hat rack. Another asked for forged, kitchen drawer handles, and so on. These soon became our most popular items, now found in countries all over the world and in most of the fifty states! And we continue to add new items all the time.
